Jewelers declare indefinite Strike until Excise Duty is rolled Back

Biggest ever strike by jewelers has just grown a lot bigger as Jewelers across the country have declared an indefinite strike until the proposed excise duties & custom duties are rolled back.

After the budget discussion today & the Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee's statement of no rollback of increase of import duties on Gold & Platinum & an alternate way of levying excise duty on gem & jewelry establishments across the country, jewelers across India, including the Gujarat Gem & Jewellery Association, which includes the World's Biggest Diamond Manufacturing Center, Surat, have declared an indefinite strike until the proposed duties are rolled back.
