Nick Vujicic - You can do anything You want!

Nick Vujicic - What an inspiration!
Nick Vujicic, I recently came across a post by a friend about this amazingly inspiring guy. Read through this post & I hope it will leave you inspired like I was when I completed this post.

The summary of the post will be :
Nick Vujicic is a guy without arms or legs who has accomplished great things in life, some of which are :
  • He can shave with his toes, I am quite sure you cannot even think of doing that.
  • He has written a book which was published by Random House
  • He has made 2 inspirational DVDs
  • He is a noteworthy motivational speaker
  • He has starred in a short film
  • He is an Entrepreneur, something even healthy people are afraid to be!
Now, if you think Nick Vujicic is awesome & it would be worth reading about this guy, read on . .

Nick Vujicic, a 29 year old guy born with a rare disorder characterized by absence of all four limbs (it is called tetra-amelia syndrome, if you care to know)

This awesome guy Nick was not always so awesome, he struggled physically & so emotionally as a child. He was limbless, missing both arms at shoulder level, as well as legless. His feet were toeless except for two toes on one foot which understandably left his parents devastated initially. Early on, he could not attend mainstream elementary school due to the Victoria state law which prohibited disabled children from attending school, though the law was later changed & he was able to attend mainstream school. But school didn't turn out to be merry for him either, Vujicic was bullied in school & mocked which left him so emotionally depressed that he contemplated suicide by the age of 8. At the age of 10, he tried to drown but could not go ahead with it for the love of his parents. He prayed a lot for his arms & legs to grow back, but when that didn't happen & he heard words of inspiration from family & what friends he had, Vujicic realized that if he could accomplish something in life, he could be an inspiration to a lot of people. A key turning point came when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severe disability. Vujicic realized he wasn't unique in his struggles and began to embrace his disability.

That is what I am trying to help him do through this post, inspiring people, (even a few IITians) that despair gets you nowhere, commitment does.

Nick Vujicic began to master the daily tasks of life. He learned to write using the two toes on his left foot with a special grip that slid onto his big toe. He learned to use a computer and type using the "heel and toe" method. He learned to
  • Throw tennis balls
  • Play drum pedals
  • Get himself a glass of water
  • Comb his hair
  • Brush his teeth
  • Answer the phone
  • Even shave
In grade seven he was elected captain of his school and worked with the student council on fund-raising events for local charities and disability campaigns. When he was seventeen, he started to give talks at his prayer group & started his non-profit venture, Life without Limbs.

Vujicic graduated from Griffith University at the age of 21 with a double major in accountancy and financial planning. Subsequently he became a motivational speaker, travelling internationally and focusing on teen issues. Having addressed over three million people in over 24 countries on five continents, he speaks to corporate audiences, congregations and schools.

His first book, Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life was published in 2010. He markets a motivational DVD, Life's Greater Purpose a short documentary filmed in 2005 highlighting his home life and regular activities. He markets a DVD for young people titled: No Arms, No Legs, No Worries: Youth Version.

In March 2008, he was interviewed by Bob Cummings.

He starred in the short film The Butterfly Circus which won the Doorpost Film Project's top prize of 2009, and the Best Short Film award at the Method Fest Film Festival, where Vujicic was also awarded Best Actor in a short film. Butterfly Circus also won the Best Short Film at The Feel Good Film Festival in Hollywood in 2010.

He also released a new music video called "Something More", which you can watch below.

Oh, & he recently got married, in February 2012 (photo above). All that I can say is, this guy has achieved a lot more at 28 & inspired more people, than many people with 2 well built arms & 2 shapely legs have. If Nick can do it, why can't we?

If you think Nick Vujicic is awesome, share this post & let the world be inspired.
