Team of Swiss Engineers have successfully created a new fabric threaded in 24K Pure Gold, never seen before in the world. The special variety of cloth uses an advanced technology to ensure that the final Gold fabric is held together in such a manner that it is weave-able, washable, and wearable.
After putting in close to 10 years of research and experimentation, the team at EMPA research institute have created the fabric with the finest thin threads of silk, and coated it with pure gold, to create the actual Gold fabric. Using a special device, a piece of gold is broken down to the nanometric scale (billionth of a metre) pieces, and then brushed onto threads of the silk. After this, the fabric is created by weaving the threads together.
Currently the production of the gold plated cloth has been limited to bow ties, pocket handkerchiefs and full length ties. The full length tie has a price tag of $8,500 a piece.
How much gold is there on it?
This is a question which is bound to interest not just the proud owner of a gold tie, but those around him as well, particularly in India, especially when the wearer steps out into the sunlight and his neck apparel begins to shimmer with its characteristic hue. The calculation is quite easy; a textile panel large enough to make three ties is coated with 25 grams of pure, 24 carat gold. Each tie therefore glows with 8 grams of gold.
These ties are made in a first limited edition of a dozen. Contact us to buy one today!
