59.60 carats Largest Fancy Vivid Pink Diamond - The Steinmetz Pink. |
Steinmetz Pink is the
Largest Fancy Vivid Pink Diamond in the world. It weighs
59.60 carats and has been graded as
Internally Flawless by
GIA, which is an extremely rare and coveted clarity grade. The
100 carats rough, discovered in South Africa has been cut in a unique pattern, oval mixed cut with a step-cut crown and a brilliant cut pavilion.
The pink diamond is the world's most rare and valuable diamond. The
cause of color in pink diamonds is thought to be plastic deformation, brought about by
microscopic imperfections at the atomic level. It is estimated that for every million carats of rough diamonds found, only 1 carat is intense pink!
The Steinmetz Pink Diamond was first unveiled in Monaco in May, 2003. It took a team of eight people working approximately
20 months to cut the diamond in its present shape. Fifty models were worked on before the cutting even began. The one in itself gem was recently valued at
25 million dollars.
