Antique Royal Butterfly Brooch, Circa 1890, mounted in silver-topped Gold and 14 karat Yellow Gold. The brooch is centered on an old European-cut Diamond weighing approximately 2.60 carats. The wings are set 'en tremblant' with old-cut Diamonds. The thorax is set with an oval Diamond weighing approximately 2.50 carats and two old-cut Diamonds, further accented by circular-cut Ruby-set eyes. The Diamonds together weigh approximately 46.75 carats.

This brooch was a part of the collection of HRH Princess Mary, The Princess Royal (1897-1965). Princess Mary was the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. She was the sixth holder of the title 'Princess Royal' and after her marriage became Countess of Harewood.
